Linda is our boat angler this Saturday, February 6th in the Wahine Local Tournament. Wish us luck...be safe everyone.
1/10 This time of year is slower for the Blue Marlin (We averaged six
Blue Marlin bites a day in the best month...August) but the Big Blues,
the big ones are all female, are starting to show up. Many years,
March will have the biggest Blue....two years ago..1251 pounds. The
fact is male Blue Marlin rarely get bigger than 300 to 400 pounds. It
is the females that hit the "Grander" plus sizes. Linda made the
comment about "Mother Nature" having something against the females of
the world.....
We got to a "Floater" (any thing that floats can attract fish,
sometimes by the hundreds, so always an exciting find when you get to
be first or second boat there) in December that was a fishing net and
buoy covered with Marine growth, when the Clark's were out with us and
caught twenty fish including Ahi (Yellow Fin Tuna), Mahi (Dorado), and
Ono (Wahoo). The most notable event was a "swing and a miss"..... We
got hit so hard by one bite ,it broke the lure...broke two wires on the
outrigger with the sound of a big auto collision, screamed off twenty
yards of line and continued away freely.
11/09 At the first annual Pacific Rim Fishing Supplies Wounded Warrier's Tournament, Fire Hatt brought in a 269# Blue Marlin, just missing 1st place. Great support from the local fishing fleet and sponsors.
What a great month December was. We had several folks out and the fish were cooperating. Several Spearfish, Blue Marlin, Mahi and Ono. This is the time of year for Spearfish to show in numbers.
Several of our guests: The Clark's, Rob and Heather, Charlie Gillespie and Mike Wagner came from British Columbia, and Charlie was from Anchorage.
